The Fleurieu Run Tribe is thrilled to unveil this special new artwork, created by prominent Arrernte artist, Amunda Gorey.
This magnificent work will also be utilised and displayed as the key design for our new apparel.
Amunda is originally from Ltyentye Apurte (Santa Teresa). She now lives in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) with her three daughters.
Amunda has been painting professionally for 20 years, creating original pieces, and commissions for people Australia-wide, as well as internationally. She has created art for organisations around the country as a key component of Reconciliation Action Plans. She is also an artist of No Fixed Gallery; a family business that she and her sister Myra created as an umbrella business for their art business.
Amunda’s vibrant and eye-catching design represents many meeting places, community, inclusion, journey, and family. The use of green and blue tones represents the sea and beautiful shorelines of Ngarrindjeri and Ramindjeri Land.
Fleurieu Run Tribe’s Founder and Run Leader Emma Kraft and Amunda forged a solid connection and lifelong friendship when they attended school together in Mparntwe. Emma received amazing local support during her running career whilst living in Mparntwe, which allowed her to represent Australia in Athletics, in Mountain Running.
In recent years, Emma relocated from Mparntwe after three decades to start a new life and chapter on Ngarrindjeri land. It is here that the Fleurieu Run Tribe was launched, its origin deeply entrenched in ‘giving back to the community’ and fostering ‘a place of belonging’. FRT is honoured that Amunda created an artwork that reflects this unique journey and the special place on which the Fleurieu Run Tribe is thankful to come together.
Fleurieu Run Tribe were recipients of the Community Bank Fleurieu Community Grant Program, which funded this amazing piece by Amunda Gorey. We would like to extend our gratitude and appreciation to Community Bank Fleurieu.
