About us

Fleurieu Run Tribe was founded in 2022 in Victor Harbor, in the beautiful Fleurieu Peninsula by Emma Kraft and Nick Oakley, Level Two and Level One Athletics Australia coaches, respectively. Both felt inspired to bring runners together in an inclusive, structured, and supportive environment. The sublime Fleurieu Peninsula is an inspiring region in which to run, with its stunning sweeping coastlines and vast, mesmerizing backdrops.

Our picturesque, inviting region was already seeing people make the most of our coastal paths and trail tracks, with recreational runners often out on the paths. But it was time to bring runners together, unify, and provide consistent and accessible opportunities to train, improve, and excel.

Our Vision

Now, in 2025, the Fleurieu Run Tribe has organically grown into something we had never imagined. The numbers have flourished, the efforts are enormous, and the state and national events attended by our runners, be it for fitness, leisure, pure fun, or as strong competitors, continues to grow.

It is our vision that the Fleurieu Run Tribe continues to thrive within the Fleurieu region, empowering runners and showcasing what building each other up looks like. We hope to continue to connect with our local community in even more ways, and offer our knowledge and support.

What We Do

Sessions are carefully structured to offer a range of coaching options and methods. The weekly coaching can be utilized by our FRT runners as part of their wider running/fitness journeys or as their key focus for an individual running goal or specific event preparation. For example, a marathon, trail run, triathlon, or other endurance event.

If you’re ever out on the Esplanade when the sun rises on a Monday morning, chances are you’ll see our jovial, high-energy group hitting the pavement, as we head towards Kent Reserve. Or perhaps you’re up early enough to get a glimpse of the group heading across the causeway to Granite Island, to make huge gains via gruelling hills, surrounded by the breathtaking beauty of the island.

FRT runners go at their own pace and know that they’re surrounded by like-minded people who are there to encourage and cheer them on. And a morning with Fleurieu Run Tribe is almost always followed by coffee and laughs, you’ll often see us at the Causeway Café. Or sometimes it concludes with a cold plunge in the sparkling ocean, for those who feel so inclined!

What Our Runners Achieve

We consistently see an average of FRT 40 participants registering and competing in local 'Fun Runs', such as those offered by Great Southern Runs. Examples of other events that our members have participated in include IRONMAN, track ultra, triathlons, and trail runs, including the Heysen Trail Running series and marathons.

Some of our junior members have accessed coaching that has supported and complemented their training for state and national cross-country and track and field representation and events, as well as other sporting disciplines.

We now have a total of 6 Athletics Australia accredited coaches within the group. All of our coaches are experienced, approachable, and passionate about FRT members feeling like their health, vitality, and well-being is improved by coming together and running, together.
